Cilla Patton.
Swiss national, born in Canada.
With my painting I process what goes on in my life.
Inspiration comes from many sources: poetry, music, stories, news, and colour. My notebooks and sketchbooks are an important source of images, photographs, sketches and ideas.
However, over time I've let my unconscious play the biggest part in my painting, always surprising me with the outcome.
There is a story to tell with atmosphere and feeling, however, my obsession with colour takes over in the process of painting.
I feel pulled towards abstraction. And yet it is always the story which keeps the painting going while I'm working on it.
My small works begin as colour studies informing the larger works, but develop into mostly abstract pieces.
Using collage with paint helps in the 'making' of the work. I like the physicality of it and experimenting with different mediums.
I work on paintings over a long time, at times leaving them until I see a way forward to completion.
